Have these to hand
- Rough dimensions, or a few photographs of the drive from each end, including the edges and any low thresholds.
- Where the water goes when it rains hard — even 'it puddles by the garage' is useful.
- Gates, steps, slopes, retaining walls and inspection chambers on the plot.
- Any plans, utility layouts or past groundworks you may have.
- What bothers you about the drive as it is now, and any ideas or photographs of drives you like.
- Whether anyone needs level, step-free access, or heavy vehicles need to turn.
What happens on the visit
We measure, check the existing surface and base, look at levels and drainage, and talk through the options with samples held against the property. It is usually a working conversation rather than a presentation — you are welcome to ask anything, including what you would not do on your own drive.
What you get afterwards
A written proposal setting out the construction route, the quantities, what is included, what is priced separately and what is excluded, with the subtotal, VAT and total shown. We don't hand over a fixed price on the doorstep, because the scope and the price are worked out after the visit.
Questions worth asking us
- Which construction route are you proposing, and why not the other one?
- How deep will the excavation and sub-base be?
- Where does the water go?
- Who supervises the work, and who actually does it?
- What would make this price change?
